Our program participates in many events throughout the city to support fire and home safety. The best recruitment has been through word of mouth at these events.

I know most volunteer agencies require a certain amount of volunteer hours to be considered active. In my recruitment efforts, I do not require mandatory hours. With past experience, I find that if you do not "require" anything, you get more out of people. They do not feel obligated and, often times, end up volunteering many hours. I have a booth for sign up for the Corps at Fire Department functions. We have a dinner each month and I set up a recruitment booth. I end up with donations too:-)

In my experience with recruiting I have sent letters to the retiree's, and the participants of what we call Citizens Academy, which is a 6 week program that gives community members a hands on over view of what the city public safety staff does. I also recruit high school students that are enrolled in the OEC (Opportunity in Emergency Care) program at our local high school.
