Hi Alice! If you want to open a bank account for your Fire Corps, you would need to first register as a 501(c)3 organization (which usually also means incorporating within your state as well). It can be a lengthy process and I would recommend getting help from an attorney or CPA to accomplish this (you may find someone who will donate their services). Once you become a 501(c)3 there are annual reporting requiements you need to adhere to, including submitting a Form 990 with the federal government and, if your organization is incorporated, there are annual filing requirements for that as well.
