If you love barbecued ribs, head for Boardman on July 2. All you'll need is your nose to find the site of the second annual Scorchin' Summer Rib Cook-off.

The cook-off is held in the city park and is sponsored by members of the Boardman Fire Fighter's Association and Fire Corps.

Even if you're not participating in the cook-off, drop by the park in the afternoon and help choose the People's Choice award winner.

Mouthwatering aromas will begin to fill the air at 7 a.m. as contestants indulge in some neighborly razzing as the seasoned ribs hit the grills. Judging begins at 2:30 p.m. and once the smeared ballots are counted, awards will be announced.

The entry fee is $80 per team which includes four racks of ribs. Add $20 to your entry for two extra racks. The cook-off is limited to 20 teams.

Proceeds help support specialized training and supplies for fire district volunteers and community public education and safety awareness materials.

Entry packets are available at the Boardman fire station, 300 S.W. Wilson Lane, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 541-481-3473.
