From: TribLocal - Des Plaines

The Des Plaines Fire Corps Program, a group of volunteers who supplement first responders during times of emergency and City events and support the Police and Fire Departments as needed, is seeking volunteers. Fire Corps, a partner program of Citizen Corps, is part of the Des Plaines Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.

Fire Corps Program candidates will be trained on support operations for traffic, road closures, emergency vehicle operations, scene illumination, as well as other support opportunities. The response unit is “on call” to respond as needed to various emergency activities.

According to Citizen Corps Division Coordinator Bruce Ahlmann, candidates must by 18 years of age and older (21 years old to drive city vehicles), interested in helping the community through volunteerism, and live in proximity to the City of Des Plaines to be accessible to assisting with emergency responses, City events, etc. Candidates will undergo a background investigation and will be fingerprinted.

“If you are interested in learning more about the Fire Corps Program, have the necessary requirements to become a member, and have an interest in helping the community and assisting people, we would be glad to speak to you,” Citizen Corps Division Coordinator Ahlmann said.

Interested individuals are encouraged to call 847-652-1123 for additional information and program requirements.
