The Greater Springfield Volunteer Fire Department (GSVFD) in Springfield, VA, held its Annual Fire Prevention Week Open House on Saturday October 10. Through the efforts of the department’s Fire Corps members, volunteer firefighters, EMTs, and station career staff, the department won the Fairfax County Battalion 5 Fire Prevention Week 2009 Best Open House for the second year in a row.
In addition to the open house, Fire Corps members and staff also offered an inaugural pancake breakfast, which turned out to be a great success and even drew local political officials to help serve the community in new ways. Games, displays, and activities helped to round out the important fire safety event.
“It was a fun and informative day for all – teaching this year’s theme of ‘Stay Fire Smart - Don't Get Burned,’” said Rick Machado, GSVFD Fire Corps Coordinator.
