From The Siuslaw News

Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue is sponsoring a Safety Fair today in conjunction with National Disaster Preparedness Month. With the help of the Fire Corps and CERT members, the Safety Fair is set up at Siuslaw Middle School, 2525 Oak St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free hot dogs, popcorn and Pepsi will be available.

As a primary resource for the 9-1-1 system, SVF&R wants the public to meet the agencies they work with. Not only do these agencies assist fire and rescue teams, but they also provide excellent information on safety and disaster preparedness.

Representatives from the following agencies have been invited: Life Flight, REACH and Emergency Air Lift, air ambulance companies, Central Lincoln PUD, U.S. Coast Guard from the Siuslaw River Station and the North Bend Air Station, Eugene Bomb Unit, Haz-Mat 2 from Eugene, Lane County Sheriff, Marine, Dunes and Search and Rescue divisions, Florence Police, Oregon State Police, Oregon State Parks’ Beach Safety and ATV Safety Units, West Lane Emergency Operations Group, Oregon Department of Forestry, U.S. Forest Service, Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office, the Red Cross, Oregon Department of Transportation, and Western Lane Ambulance District.

Smokey and the Fire Pup will also be there.

The Prevention Division of Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue will offer hands-on fire extinguisher training for adults as well as a vehicle extrication demonstration.

They will also provide a port-a-tank where kids of all ages can operate a fire hose.

Information will be available on addresses, smoke alarms, home inspection and disaster preparedness. Professionals will be happy to answer questions.
