Make Positive Changes During National Firefighter Health Week

Tuesday, 16 August 2011

It’s National Firefighter Health Week! Fire Corps teams can play an important role in integrating health and fitness into the department and throughout the community. Visit the online National Firefighter Health Week Resource Center to access tools and information to help you plan Health Week initiatives.

Cook a healthy meal, organize an athletic event, or plan another healthy activity to show your first responders you support them. The resource center has activity suggestions for each day of the week, as well as tools and resources for focusing on health and wellness. The Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program web site at www.healthy-firefighter.org also has information for starting a department-wide health and wellness program and information on key health areas such as nutrition, fitness, and heart-health basics.

The NVFC presents National Firefighter Health Week each August to promote firefighter health and wellness nationwide. Launched in 2007, the initiative is designed to create awareness around important health issues in the emergency services and encourage first responders to take action.
