September is National Preparedness Month

Tuesday, 16 August 2011

September is National Preparedness Month (NPM), and your department, Fire Corps team, business, or other organization can help encourage more Americans to be prepared by joining the NPM Coalition. This year’s theme is A Time to Remember. A Time to Prepare.

Fire Corps teams can organize a variety of events for their communities. Host a preparedness open house and plan visits to local schools and senior centers to discuss emergency plans and fire safety. Consider hosting a preparedness workshop, day, or fair. Ladder trucks and ambulances serve as a perfect backdrop for an educational booth where you distribute home fire safety checklists or surveys, schedule smoke alarm installations, and/or answer questions about smoke and CO alarms and offer fire safety tips. Post your preparedness activity at community.fema.gov.

Membership in the NPM Coalition is free and open to all public and private sector organizations. National Preparedness Month is sponsored by the Ready Campaign and Citizen Corps. Organizations that join the NPM Coalition work to promote emergency preparedness in any way that they can during the month of September. Registered members have access to resources and tips to help promote emergency preparedness.
