Focus on Wildfire Prevention and Safety

Wednesday, 19 September 2012

Wildfires can be devastating and unpredictable. Luckily, home and business owners can take steps to reduce the risk of wildfire damage. Now is the time for residents across the country to protect their homes from brush, grass, and forest fire damage.

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) details preventative measures such as clearing property of debris and maintaining landscaping in their guide Wildfire: Are You Prepared?

Fire Corps programs can take the lead in their communities to ensure preventative measures are taken in high risk areas. Volunteers can conduct free safety checks of homes and businesses in or near wooded areas and can distribute wildfire safety information.

Wildfire prevention tips are available through USFA and the National Fire Protection Association's Firewise Communities program, which teaches people how to adapt to living with wildfire and encourages neighbors to work together and take action now to prevent losses.
