Fire Corps Volunteers Lend a Hand to Help Family Featured on Dec. 3 Episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Tuesday, 27 November 2012

Last year, volunteer firefighter Mizzy Zdroj’s home was destroyed due to the Bastrop wildfire that devastated parts of Texas. A few months later, ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition stepped in to help the Zdroj family. The show, along with builder EFC Custom Homes of Bastrop, and a crew of over 3,000 volunteers including firefighters and Fire Corps members, came together to rebuild the home in less than a week.

Fire Corps Texas State Advocate Jeanie Fossati was among the volunteers helping with the build. Click here to read her firsthand account of the project.

In addition to getting a new home, Zdroj’s fire department – the Heart of Pines Volunteer Fire Department – also received a makeover. Corporate supporters donated much-needed gear and equipment to the department, including a 2001 Ford brush truck from Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus, turnout gear from NVFC partner Globe Manufacturing, two-way radios from Motorola, and more. Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) donated scholarships to the entire department to attend the annual fire school.

Watch the story unfold  on the December 3 episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC.
