DHS Secretary Chertoff Stresses Partnerships in Emergency Preparedness

Friday, 04 November 2005

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff addressed attendees of the IAFC's Leadership summit last month, discussing the importance of collaboration among partners throughout the first responder community, and efforts on behalf of the department to provide resources and funding to support emergency preparedness. Commending them on the success of the joint Fire Corps initiative, a program designed to engage citizens in emergency preparedness, Chertoff referred to these citizens as "one of our nation's most valuable and underutilized resources." Fire Corps, a component of the departments Citizen Corps program, was launched last December, and has grown today to include over 370 fire and rescue departments representing 45 states and Guam.
