Fire Corps Attended DHS Volunteer Community Service Fair

Wednesday, 11 April 2007

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) hosted the First Annual Volunteer Community Service Fair on Monday, April 16. DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff kicked off the event by thanking all the participating organizations and attendees for their continuous dedication to promoting volunteerism. Citizen Corps, Fire Corps, and other Citizen Corps Program Partners were chosen to be the key participants of the day and had the opportunity to speak with Secretary Chertoff individually about their respective programs.

Throughout the day, volunteers, organizations, and federal employees networked and shared experiences about the impact of volunteerism. Attendees included a variety of volunteer organizations as well as over 100 community volunteers who provided aid and support during Hurricane Katrina.

"Volunteers have such an important role in our nation," said Lori Moon, Fire Corps Coordinator. "They donate their time to provide our communities with important work and services. It was great to see so many organizations and individuals, including Secretary Chertoff, come together to support volunteerism and celebrate the achievements of volunteers."
