CERT Training Videos Available to Fire Corps Programs

Wednesday, 20 October 2010

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a program under Citizen Corps and a partner program of Fire Corps. CERT helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. According to a recent study, 48 percent of departments with a Fire Corps team also have CERT.

When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also work with Fire Corps volunteers to help with non-emergency projects that improve the safety of the community.

CERT offers a variety of training videos that are available for download on their web site. Fire Corps teams can utilize these videos to learn more about different areas of disaster response including disaster psychology, safety in the after-disaster environment, handling mass casualty situations, fire safety, and victim carries and extrications. To view these videos and browse other CERT resources, visit www.citizencorps.gov/cert/videos.
