California Department of Forestry In 1980, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) conceived and developed a fire prevention program called "Volunteers in Prevention (VIP)." Now a registered Fire Corps program, VIP is largely staffed and operated by citizen volunteers. The VIP program has a strong focus on fire prevention and safety, education and communications.

Keri Van Patten has been a volunteer for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) since May of 1986. During the past 19 years of service, Keri has grown in her ability to provide a tremendous service to the citizens of the State of California. To date, Keri has donated more than 6,000 hours to fire prevention and education and has terrific insight, enthusiasm and understanding of the program.

Keri is a great help to the Volunteers in Prevention program for the (CDF). A former firefighter for CDF at the Madera, Mariposa, Merced Unit, her background and experience are a wonderful benefit to the department's education program. Keri is a volunteer that you can give a program to and be assured it will be accomplished in a professional manner with an excellent fire prevention and life safety message given. Keri has always been a hard working volunteer who takes a great deal of personal pride in her work and appearance. She is reliable and conscientious in what she does. Her positive attitude and willingness to get things done is a real asset to the agency.
