Grant Opportunities for 2009

As 2009 moves into full swing, remember that you can apply for grants to help your Fire Corps team fund initiatives and resources. Below is a list of a few grants with ongoing deadlines.

State Farm has a grant program that focuses on reaching three specific goals: making safe neighbors, strong neighborhoods, and attaining education excellence. Your local Fire Corps program may already engage in certain activities that meet the requirements for grants relating to safety. Activities involving fire prevention, wildland urban interface, disaster relief, and disaster preparedness may qualify. If your organization has the ability to obtain measurable results and can provide assurance that opportunities are available for local State Farm employees to participate, you may increase your odds of receiving a grant.

The Wal-Mart Foundation Community Giving Program allows local Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores to recommend grants of up to $5,000 for qualifying organizations. While the company’s funding priorities do not include fire-related programs, they do include supporting certain demographics, including people with disabilities or people who have been affected by a natural disaster. If your Fire Corps program pursues any activities that specifically benefit either of those groups, you may want to consider applying for a grant. Visit their web page for additional requirements.

The Firefighters Charitable Foundation provides grants to organizations that are active in preventing fires through education and action. If your Fire Corps team participates in a smoke alarm installation program or has an interest in starting a Juvenile Firesetters Program, grants may be available to help.
