1-800-FIRE-LINE: Growth in 2008 and High Expectations for 2009
Monday February 16th, 2009If you have never heard of 1-800-FIRE-LINE, now is the perfect time to learn more as the campaign is experiencing major growth. This national recruitment campaign allows community members to call from anywhere in the country to learn about both local emergency and non-emergency (Fire Corps) volunteer opportunities in the fire and emergency services in their area.
In 2008, the total number of calls per month to 1-800-FIRE-LINE nearly doubled nationally as compared to 2007. The year-end total for Idaho, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania were each about 300 calls. However, Oregon easily led the way with over 600 calls from prospective volunteers during the year. The chart below shows states receiving over 100 calls in 2008.
Your Fire Corps program can help recruit emergency and non-emergency volunteers for your department through 1-800-FIRE-LINE simply by advertising the campaign in your area. Take advantage of this free resource by hanging or distributing flyers, posting the number on your department’s marquee, and working with local media outlets to run public service announcements (PSAs).
