Make a Plan
Every family should take steps now to have an emergency plan in the event that disaster strikes. Families need to know how to get in touch with one another, where to meet, and what you will do in the event of an emergency.
How to Make an Emergency Plan:
- Sit down with your family and decide how you will get in touch with one another.
- Have an out-of-town contact as during an emergency phone lines may be busy. Make sure that all family members have this contact number and that they have a pre-paid phone card on hand for use during an emergency.
- Decide on a neighborhood meeting place.
- Make sure that all family members know the evacuation route for your area.
- Fill out the Family Emergency Plan sheet found at www.ready.gov. This information sheet should be kept in your disaster kit, and a copy should be given to each of your family members. All important contact numbers, meeting locations, and important personal information should be included in this plan, such as medical information, addresses of the places that your family frequents, etc.
