Inland Township (MI) Fire Department
The Inland Township (MI) Fire Corps consists of 12 citizen volunteers serving a brand new volunteer department that protects more than 1,100 people. The Fire Corps team is an integral part of the 4-month-old department and provides essential support, assistance, and enthusiasm.
Inland Township decided that it wanted to have its own fire department rather than outsourcing fire services at a cost of $60,000 annually. Before the new station, Inland Township residents were paying for their fire protection services from two neighboring townships. The community worked hard to ensure the creation of a new department, and as a result taxpayers will save thousands of dollars every year and will benefit from faster call response times.
The Inland Township Fire Corps recently sponsored a building dedication and open house for the new department. Inland Township Fire Department opened its doors on April 1, 2010, and has already responded to numerous fire calls, vehicle/accident-related calls, and mutual aid calls.
To assist the department, the Inland Township Fire Corps is currently planning several fundraising projects as well as educational programs for the local schools and for the public at large. They are in the process of planning a CPR class for the general public and developing presentations for the local elementary and middle schools for fire prevention programs. Additionally, an Explorer program has been created for the Junior and Senior High students.
